Content
This motion graphics explainer was developed for the Dutch Relief Alliance to outline the complex but vital risk-sharing frameworks of the Yemen Joint Response (YJR). Humanitarian efforts in Yemen face severe challenges, including economic instability and access constraints. This video breaks down how the YJR model strategically distributes reputational, security, operational, and ethical risks among donors and local partners. It highlights real-world applications, such as using a "crisis modifier" to maintain program delivery during the 2024 frozen funds crisis, proving that risk sharing is a strategic response, not avoidance.
My Approach
To communicate the complex policy frameworks and strategic models of the Yemen Joint Response, I developed a textured, mixed-media collage style. By blending torn paper elements, photographic cutouts, and crisp infographic overlays, I was able to translate abstract humanitarian concepts into clear, digestible visual metaphors—such as interlocking gears for coordinated mitigation and a puzzle-piece lightbulb for innovative solutions. The animation is driven by smooth, sweeping transitions and bold typography, ensuring that the critical message of mutual accountability and equitable partnership remains engaging and easy to understand for stakeholders and the public alike.
